Cover the Uninsured Week

Over 1.5 million North Carolinians lack health insurance coverage. That means they don't receive preventive care, are more likely to be diagnosed in the advanced stages of a disease, and are sicker and die earlier than their friends and neighbors who do have insurance.

Last year Community Health Centers treated nearly 200,000 uninsured patients, providing them with a medical home. From April 27-May 3 health centers in North Carolina will join thousands of other organizations around the country in commemorating
Cover the Uninsured Week. Wake Health Services, Inc. is holding a ribbon cutting to celebrate new medical services onsite at the South Wilmington Street Center on May 1.

Cabarrus Community Health Center is participating in information sessions about programs for the uninsured in Cabarrus County all week long at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast.

We hope that this week will spark dialogue in your community about what needs to be done to ensure that everyone gets the medical treatment they need, regardless of their insurance status.
